Hardship Funds
Hardship Fund
A significant number of UKMCL members are overseas students and/or youngsters who do not have their families or an extended network of friendship to support them in case of unexpected hardship or emergencies.
In addition to providing its members with moral and practical support, it is important that the League assists them financially in case of emergencies and/or extreme hardship. Hence, the UKMCL have introduced a ‘Hardship Fund’ for its members.
Available Grants
Two types of assistance are available through the UKMCL Hardship Fund Scheme.
1. Hardship Grant
One off grant of up to £250 is available to members facing emergencies such as medical cost or repatriation cost. Recipients do not need to repay the amount received as grant.
2. Hardship Loan
Interest free loan of up to £500 is available for members facing extreme hardship or sudden emergencies. The loan can be used towards medical costs, travel costs in case of family emergencies, educational purposes, if facing homelessness and for other unexpected hardship. The loan must be paid in full or through instalments within the agreed time scale.
Application Process
There is a simple and short application process to follow. In all instances the applicant must directly or through your Team Rep approach the League Secretary via phone with the application. There are no forms to fill out. The Secretary will discuss the application with the Hardship Fund Panel which consists of the League Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. Depending on the emergency, the Secretary will then inform the applicant of the outcome within a maximum time of 24 hours from the time the application is made.
All applications whether successful or not will be dealt with in strict confidentially.
Terms & Conditions
The Hardship Fund scheme is restricted to members of Teams registered with the UKMCL. This does not include additional teams participating in the 20Twenty Tournaments and League Finals.
The Hardship Fund Panel’s decision will be final. There is no appeal process.
In some cases the Panel may require the applicant’s Team Rep to act as a guarantor to the loan approved.
Other terms and conditions not mentioned here may apply.
